Holy Angels Preschool and Kindergarten prides itself on being a play-based, hands-on program.  In a play-based program, children choose activities based on their current interests. The play-based classroom is broken up into sections, such as a Dramatic Play, Science area, Sensory table, reading and puzzle nook, space with blocks and manipulatives. Teachers encourage the children to play, facilitating social skills along the way. Even though it seems like they are just playing, they are learning valuable skills, including important social skills, cooperation with others, pre-reading and math skills.  Many of the choice activities are “hands-on” activities.  These “hands-on” activities utilize shapes, letters, manipulatives and other various learning tools.

Alternatively, we also use teacher-directed activities in our older groups.  Teachers lead the children in a more structured way, planning the activities, then guiding the children in doing them. This design is aimed at preparing children for the more academic classroom settings of kindergarten and first grade. A good amount of classroom time is devoted to learning letters and their sounds, numbers, classifying, sorting, and distinguishing shapes and colors.  Utilizing both; a play based and teacher-directed atmosphere broadens the horizons of all of our young students.

We are affiliated with Saint Luke the Evangelist church which is right across the parking lot. The religion amongst our teachers is very diverse; but we all share the ideal of teaching good behavior, good morals and respect for everyone within our school and beyond.  There are many opportunities for your student to learn how to help others in our community.
